Designing And Engineering - One and the same.

There seems to be a myth that designers don't code. Well I can't speak for anyone else, but I grew up with computers in the home. I've always enjoyed figuring out how they work and hacking them so they could do the things I wanted to do. I consider myself an artist who uses technology as a medium.

Here are some of the geekier things I'm familiar with.

Engineering

I've worked in Technical Support for Gateway, Inc. and Network Administration at the University of New Mexico, troubleshooting and maintaining servers, routers, operating systems, and the like.

At Acme Television and KOB-TV in Albuquerque, I was a Master Control Operator, handling transmitters, receivers, editing decks, CG boards, and databases.

I also have experience in Studio and Field Camera Operation, Sound, and Key and Electric.

Software

I'm famaliar with 3d animation in Maya

And After Effects for 3d compositing, kinetic typography, and special effects.

For video editing, I've used Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Sony Vegas, and DaVinci Resolve.

Web Development

Coding

It's been a journey, but long story short -- This site is built using a JAMstack with Contentful, Gatsbyjs, and Netlify. I started out with WYSIWYG editors like Wix and Squarespace, and blog platforms like Wordpress. But I was never happy with the results, especially on mobile devices.

So, I moved to Portland, Oregon and got certified in full stack html, css, and javascript. Of course, designing on that stack leads to slow page loading when you add in frameworks and have a lot of images and video. So I'm really excited about using React and Static Generators like Gatsbyjs, which can compile data and assets incredibly fast.

I'm still learning, and I'm always looking to learn more. Be sure to contact me if you'd like to learn more.
